my philosophy.

Teaching is the most rewarding thing in my career so far. I believe that the post-grad learning environment should be relaxed enough to leave room for open dialouge, participation, and student-lead conversations. When we openly compare and contrast our experiences, combined wth the study of historical and cultural elements––all while looking at the modern world around us––we can learn an infinite amount about our profession (and ourselves).

"People are experience rich and theory poor. People who are busy doing things, as opposed to people who are busy sitting around, like me, reading and having coffee, don't have opportunities to kind of collect and organize their experiences and make sense of them." - Malcolm Gladwell

I encourage my students to take time for having coffee... for reading... thinking... writing... discussing. I guide them to meld all of these things into their work as we collectively apply theoretical/historical/cultural truths to our own experiences. This, in my opinion, is when effective teaching and learning occurs.
