social everything.

In the future everybody will be world famous for fifteen minues. -Andy Warhol

It's true. Although stated decades ago, Andy must've been packing a crystal ball.

Let's face it, social media is everywhere—and 15 minutes of fame is relatively easy these days because of it. If you deny its presence and power, you're gonna miss the boat (or at least the engine you need to run it). I work around all forms of social media in my profession, and have surely embraced it. Explore my networks to the right.

Here's the twist... social entrepreneurship. I wholeheartedly believe that it's not all about money. I've worked in business in one way or another over the past decade, and guess what, it's a lot about money out there. Therein lies my dilemma... I can totally hang in the business world; I've worked on some pretty cool things, and I thouroughly enjoy my line of work. Alas, I've struggled to feel like I'm giving to something that matters. As perplexing as it may sound, I've learned recently that it's not my fault! My hard-wired personality doesn't lend itself at all to being motivated by money, bottom lines, or any other tangible values. Not that I don't like to do a good job and see the benefits of doing so, but it's just not what gives me a sense of acheivement. This is where the idea of social entrepreneurship comes to fruition for me, knocking loudly and clearly at my front door.

[ "You can possess the entrepreneurial gift and spirt, to create something out of nothing, but you do it for other reasons than just to make a profit. You do it for the social well being and the betterment of whomever your focus is on." - Blake Mycoskie ]

This notion is exactly what I've felt for a long time, but just never put it into words. After hearing this, I was sold and decided to use my freelance work as means to support non-profit organizations that are doing some much needed good in the world. Here's how: The "k8 supports" list below represents the organizations I support, simply by donating a portion of what I make on every one of my projects. I also take on pro-bono projects when I can. These are my small steps as I continue to seek avenues for living social entrepreneurism.
